Voting in PA

I got my voter card as a Philadelphia resident. And I voted today, at the library up at the corner.

In Philadelphia, they have a new voting system (new this election). It’s a machine-plus-a-paper-ballot system.

  1. First, they give you the paper ballot.
  2. Then you go to a machine, and you put the ballot into the machine.
  3. You touch-screen your choices.
  4. Then the machine prints your choices out onto the ballot, and you can inspect it – behind a piece of plexiglass.
  5. Okay? Choices correct? You touch VOTE –
  6. And the machine whips your ballot out of sight.

Not sure what else happens after that.

I’ve said before, I think electronic voting equipment is too vulnerable; and I don’t think it can ever be made invulnerable. In particular, if the voting system is networked, forget it. Pennsylvania knows that it is a swing state, and Philadelphia knows that it is the place that can swing the state. So we sure would like to be sure the voting is secure here. I’ll be interested to see the news tonight, on what Philadelphia thinks of its new machines.

(How did I know who to vote for? A friend helped.)

Well who do you think I voted for? You know me that well by now. 🙂
